Vivid Sydney 2025 Light Installations We’re Totally Excited About

Vivid Sydney has officially dropped the highlights for this year, and it’s looking more spectacular than ever! As always, we’re beyond excited to welcome you on our Vivid Sydney cruises. Are you ready to experience the magic of DREAM, this year’s festival theme? While we count down to Vivid Sydney 2025, let’s keep that excitement building with a sneak peek at the top light installations we’re most thrilled about.

Best Seen from A Vivid Sydney Harbour Cruise

Lighting of the Sails: Kiss of Light (Sydney Opera House)

This year, the Opera House becomes a canvas to celebrate the legacy of David McDiarmid, an immensely talented artist, who was a defining voice of late 20th-century radical counterculture. According to the festival’s official website, ‘Kiss of Light’ will be ‘a slow dance of texture, colour, feeling and idea’. Drawing from his Bedsheet Paintings, Disco Kwilts, Kiss of Light and Rainbow Aphorisms, it will reflect his punk, queer sensibility and fight for equality. Catch amazing views of this spectacle from our Vivid Sydney cruises!

Sweet Dreams (Sydney Harbour Bridge)

When you cruise under the Harbour Bridge, get ready for a full-on sugar rush! Those massive pylons are turning into giant candy makers, popcorn machines, and all kinds of sweet, nostalgic magic straight out of our childhood dreams. It’s so much fun;  very colourful, and yep, totally mouthwatering. By the time you cruise through, you’ll probably be craving a bag of gumballs or some warm buttery popcorn. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!

Vivid Light On Sydney Harbour(Circular Quay & The Rocks)

The breathtaking Vivid Sydney lights on Sydney Harbour

Just like all the other popular events in Sydney, Harbour is the heart and soul of Vivid Sydney! You’re treated to the stunning sights of a fleet of boats decked out in twinkling rope lights, their reflections shimmering and dancing across the water, while larger-than-life light installations glow from every corner. The best part is that you get to see it all from a cruise on the water, right in the middle of the magic!

Installations To Explore On Foot

Colour The City (ASN Clock Tower, The Rocks)

Ever dreamed of displaying your art for Vivid Sydney? Well, here’s your shot! This year the festival is inviting us to be the artists for an interactive community-made projection on the ASN Clock Tower. Go to the official website, download the template and let the artist in you go wild! If you’re lucky, your artwork could be one of 150 unique pieces featured every week. How awesome would that be?!

King Dingo (Museum of Contemporary Art Australia)

Look out for this bold and powerful projection on the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia by acclaimed First Nations artist Vincent Namatjira! Watch as a regal dingo leads us through Australia’s colonial history from a First Nations perspective. The artwork combines striking visuals, humour and an original score by Jeremy Whiskey. Through the dingo, portrayed as everyman, leader, and agitator, King Dingo envisions a dream of cultural reclamation, strength, and unity, ending with a triumphant return to Dingo Country. We think it is a really unique idea and can’t wait to see how it unfolds!

Stem (Cadmans Cottage, The Rocks)
This interactive artwork is a must-do! It is a flower microphone in front of the Cadmans Cottage. Speak, whisper, or sing your dream and see it become a unique, animated tree on the cottage. The sound of your voice, its pitch, volume and cadence, shapes the tree’s colours, patterns and growth in real time. Let us see what tree your dreams draw!
